From this Moment by Elizabeth Camden

Title:  From This Moment
Series:  From This Moment, Book 1
Author: Elizabeth Camden
Publisher:  Bethany House
Release Date:  June 7, 2016
Genre: Inspirational Historical Fiction

Romulus White has tried for years to hire illustrator Stella West for his renowned scientific magazine. She is the missing piece he needs to propel his magazine to the forefront of the industry.

But Stella abruptly quit the art world and moved to Boston with a single purpose: to solve the mysterious death of her beloved sister. Romulus, a man with connections to high society and every important power circle in the city, could be her most valuable ally.

Sparks fly the instant Stella and Romulus join forces, and Romulus soon realizes the strong-willed and charismatic Stella could disrupt his hard-won independence. Can they continue to help each other when their efforts draw the wrong kind of attention from the powers-that-be and put all they've worked for at risk?

"Sometimes art captures the human spirit in a way no words can ever hope to do."

From This Moment by Elizabeth Camden captures what readers enjoy in a historical suspense. With great historical details, strong characters and a mystery filled with twists and turns, one would not get lost, but rather quite engrossed in it. Yet, it is the characters themselves that have turned down the heat for me. No, I still enjoyed this novel, but the main characters, Stella and Romulus just rubs me the wrong way.  I like strong female characters, but I also believe there's a fine line between being witty and pompous. Both characters are self-centered and somewhat selfish. Their romance doesn't excite me. The other romance in the novel, Clyde and Evelyn intrigues me more, yet, that too, I find underwhelming.  Despite so, I do see character strength in each of them. The story does in fact move along, and for any historical mystery fan, the suspense played out will satisfy your appetite, though it does seem to wrap up rather quickly.  A quick read for me that definitely gives quite the impression with a strong plot that does carry through.
