'No...'
This beautiful woman had stolen his heart.
She was a breath away from his every thought."

Title:  Love, Lace and Minor Alterations
Author:  V. Joy Palmer
Publisher:  WhiteFire Publishing
Release Date:  June 15, 2016
Genre: Inspirational Contemporary Fiction

Isabel Izze Vez, bridal consultant extraordinaire, has been helping brides find their perfect wedding gowns for years. All the happy endings are starting to grate on her. How many wedding dresses does Izze have to help other brides find before she actually gets to wear one herself? After experiencing a failed romance several years earlier, Izze begins barraging God: When will it be her turn?

When James Miles Clayton walks into her life, a fragile relationship is formed, but will their rocky start and a misunderstanding at work destroy everything? More importantly, will Izze let go of her shattered dreams, and trust God for a beautiful future?

Goodness! Love, Lace and Minor Alterations by V.Joy Palmer is hilarious to boot. The quirky main character, Izze is like my long lost twin. Okay, not really, but I love her craziness, her sarcasm and her tendencies to just jump the gun on many things. O, not to mention her love of books and the Gilmore Girls.

"...do you need more books?"
"Miles...I always need more books." (195)

Ahhh, a girl after my own heart.  All right, you caught me. The emphasis was mine, but since Izze is like my lost lost twin, I'm pretty sure she wanted to stress the "always" part.  Honestly, if she is not a figment of the author's imagination, I would seek her out and befriend her. OK, a tad bit stalkerish, but Izze will understand. The hero in question, Miles is just perfect for Izze. He can twist her words back at her, giving us readers some fun dialogues to read. Their banter had me giggling like I'm the one who's nuts. Izze + Miles = laughter. Did I also mention that Miles is quite the handsome boy in a nerdy sort of way?

Izze and Miles aren't the only characters in Love, Lace and Minor Alterations, but they definitely are the ones that shine. That said, I would LOVE to see this continue on with the other girls in the Ever After Bridal Salon or Izze's best friends.  I know they're not Izze, but their personalities sure sound like they have enough pizzazz of their own to carry a storyline.

Despite all the entertainment and laughter Love, Lace and Minor Alterations seems to ooze of, it also contains a good dose of authenticity in its message of overcoming fear, and ultimately the issue of trust. Izze's conversations with God throughout reminds me of my conversations with Him and though at times, it's comical, it presents the implication of our own thoughts. Do we trust in ourselves or in Him? Maybe sometimes we don't even know, and that my friends, may indicate more than we're willing to admit.

Love, Lace and Minor Alterations is simply delicious in any way a book can be. The author's humor can be seen throughout the book in both Izze and Miles. I can see her rational nature may be found in Aunt Jill. Hmmm, I might be overthinking all of this. With references to Pride & Prejudice and Gilmore Girlsthis book is a joy to read and when I need a good laugh, I'll be sure to pull this out and reread.

"My job is to let God make alterations, both minor and major in my life." (242)
