New Beginnings with Ruth Logan Herne

Just Commonly welcome authors to drop by and share with us their take on a book that embodies a predetermined Word of the Month!  For the full year of 2017, every Monday, a new post by a new author will be posted!

We continue this second week of New Beginnings with best-selling author, Ruth Logan Herne!

"I love new beginnings. I fashion a lot of my work around that premise because I believe God wants his people happy!

I love stories of second chances, stories that follow scarred souls out of the shadows and into the light of joy and forgiveness. I read a Lisa Wingate book years ago, a beautiful story about a young woman with little opportunity. "Good Hope Road" is from Lisa's "Tending Roses" series, and her presentation of events, and how things fell into place for the heroine in a most unlikely manner, touched my heart. More than that, Lisa's presentation of the story taught me a great deal about story-telling... how to let events and characters wrap around the reader's heart... and their soul. Since then I've read many of Lisa's books... And one of my great "happy" moments was having Lisa's endorsement on my first "Double S Ranch" book "Back in the Saddle".

I'm still a Wingate fan. And a Karen White fan... I get positively goofy when they're around, as if I'm walking with royals, total fan girl! Because when I read their work, I'm transported into that emotional beauty few writers achieve.  And I love it."

Multi-published, bestselling author Ruth Logan Herne loves God, her family, her country, dogs, chocolate and great coffee! With nearly 40 novels and novellas released, Ruthy is close to two million in sales... and still pinches herself to make sure this is real. She lives on a small farm in upstate New York where winter  means lake effect snow, warming lights for the chickens and quiet writing time! This does not happen once spring arrives! You can find Ruthy on facebook, visit her website ruthloganherne.com or tweet her @ruthloganherne, and she often hangs with a great group of inspirational authors in "Seekerville" a reader-and-writer-friendly blog www.seekerville.blogspot.com

ABOUT BACK IN THE SADDLE

The Prodigal Is Coming Home

It’s been a long time since Colt Stafford shrugged off his cowboy legacy for shiny Manhattan loafers and a promising career on Wall Street. But when stock market manipulations leave him financially strapped, the oldest son of legendary rancher Sam Stafford decides to return to the sprawling Double S ranch in Gray’s Glen, Washington. He’s broke, but not broken, and it’s time to check in with his ailing father, and get his legs back under him by climbing into the saddle again.

He doesn’t expect to come home to a stranger pointing a loaded gun at his chest— a tough yet beautiful woman that Sam hired as the house manager. Colt senses there’s more to Angelina Morales than meets the eye and he’s determined to find out what she’s hiding...and why.

Colt’s return brings new challenges. Younger brother Nick has been Sam’s right-hand man at the ranch for years and isn’t thrilled at having Colt insert himself into Double S affairs. And the ranch’s contentious relationship with the citizens of Gray’s Glen asks all the Stafford men to examine their hearts about what it truly means to be a neighbor.  And as Wall Street recovers, will Colt succumb to the call of the financial district’s wealth and power—or finally the courage to stay in the saddle for good?

    3. Oh my stars, I love being adored.... Totally going to my head, I must go do my hair!!! :)

Annie, you would love Lisa's work, and I think what worked for me about both her and Karen White and Holly Jacobs is that they had to kind of re-invent themselves based on whoever contracted them at the time, without selling out.... and I followed their lead. (COPYCAT RUTHY!!!!) It makes sense to me, that authors need to be able to produce for different houses, especially these days (and I think it keeps us fresher... like a 3rd grade teacher that's forced to switch to 5th grade, and has to re-fresh all the stale stuff she's been depending on for 12 years, you know?) So these ladies blazed a path that I saw and thought.... that's what I want to do.

My first Lisa books were her Texas Cooking series.... and my first Karen White book was from an OLD contest.... Falling Home. Still love all those books. I had to re-buy Karen's because it got left in the pouring rain one day... Oops. But that wasn't quite as bad as when a puppy ate and then made a mess on a Missy Tippens book. :) Another quick Amazon buy!!! Oy, life with kids and dogs!!!!

  3. Enjoyed your post, Ruthy - Lisa is one of my fave authors, as are you, my dear!! Some of her books have been submitted for TV movies, and a TV series she is working on with another author, featuring the wives of sports figures is a done deal, I think, but I don't know when the first episode will air. Hugs - looking forward to your next release, Ruthy!!

  4. Well, when Ruthy recommends a book, it goes straight to the top of my TBR list!

And aren't we all fangirling all over the place? Don't we all adore Ruthy?

I love stories of new beginnings, too. Stories that leave me with hope for the future when I get to that last page are worth reading again and again. Bring 'em on!
