Book Review: At Your Request by Jen Turano, a beginning of a great new series!

"Wilhelmina was not a lady who was comfortable with accepting the
whole banished-to-the-fringes-of-society notion."

Title:  At Your Request
Series: Apart from the Crowd, Prequel (0.5)
Author:  Jen Turano
Publisher:  Bethany House Publishers
Release Date: January 3, 2017
Genre: Inspirational Historical Fiction

After her father lost the family's fortune, Wilhelmina was cast out of the fashionable set and banished to the wallflower section. Taking a position as a social secretary to help support her family, she's mostly come to terms with her new status. But when her old friend Edgar returns to New York society for the first time since she rejected his marriage proposal, she's newly ashamed at how far she's fallen--and how hastily she dismissed him years ago. Her strategy is to avoid a face-to-face encounter at all costs, but he seems to have other plans. Will Edgar take advantage of their now reversed positions and make her regret her refusal, or is there still hope for a friendship between them--or something more?

At Your Request is an e-only novella that gives an exciting introduction to Jen Turano's new Gilded Age historical romance series, Apart From the Crowd! Includes an extended excerpt of the first full-length novel in the series, Behind the Scenes.

At Your Request is simply a delight! It's all the fancy historical tidbits of society mixed with quirky humor that I've come to expect of the author, Jen Turano. I love that the most funny thing that can happen will happen to our dear characters. I love that our main character, Wilhelmina have the longest name that I can't pronounce properly and I love that Edgar is just as easy to say as it is to fall for. (Though his last name is more comical than easy.) I love all the supporting characters, especially Mr. Rutherford and Miss Grisswold. Their encounters are just hilarious (quotes below)! I love that it's set in my home city, New York City. I love the historical details of places I know. I love how the plot is ridiculously understandable.  I love that love and embarrassment can lead to further embarrassment, but it also clearly shows love loves all. I love that the humor makes me laugh out loud and turn a not so great day into a day I can laugh, and when one can laugh, all is well.  That's what At Your Request is. A story and a start to a great day - and a great series.

"You haven't allowed me the honor of filling in a spot on your dance card."
"...I assure you, there's no need to dance with me."
"There's every need..."
"You should assume nothing of the sort."
"Hand it over."

  3. It may sound weird but I love books about the banished. And Lisa Kleypas' wallflower series is one of my favorites. Thanks for letting me know about this one!
