Spin with Spinning Starlight + Giveaway

What do you think of the cover? Isn't it beautiful? That is how I was drawn into "Spinning Starlight" by  R.C. Lewis in the first place. I started reading it and immediately was wrapped up into the mysterious futuristic worlds of galaxies and lost planets. I want to find out what happened to a family of geniuses and the power house of the technology planet of Sampati.  I want to know why Liddi was attacked at her own home and how she will save her brothers, with the help of Tiav. I was hooked early on and until the end.

What intrigues me most is the high-tech aspect throughout the series. I find Ms. Lewis imaginative and quite brilliant in many aspect of creating a world that seems so real, but isn't. Isn't that what makes a good book? Bring readers to a world of imagination that anything can happen?  Then reading Liddi's narration, especially her inner thoughts since she was unable to speak for fear of causing her brothers' deaths, allows me to connect to her.  Her thoughts, from being self-conscious to self-doubt was relate-able and one can sense the love she has for every one of her brothers, and her desire to share with Tiav.

I enjoyed reading this novel through and through and thought the plot was well though out, and gives closure to all aspects, from the mystery of Liddi's brothers, to the romance between Liddi and Tiav to the villains of the story, Ms. Lewis gave her readers an ending.  Is it an ending you want, that's for you to decide.  For me, I enjoyed it so much that I wish there will be another companion or a sequel. I would be just as thrilled to read further about Liddi's brothers and how Tiav fits into Simpati. What about the written language? I would love to see how that is incorporated back into their futuristic worlds.

If you enjoy young adult, sci-fi and/or fantasy genres, you'll enjoy "Spinning Starlight". If you're a fan of Ms. Lewis or her first novel, "Stitching Snow", check this one out.  Speaking of "Stitching Snow", I have not read it yet, but I will add it to my to read list. I'm intrigued by Ms. Lewis' writing and her imaginative ways of retelling fairy tales or children's stories.  I didn't realize "Spinning Starlight" was a retelling of Hans Christian Anderson's "The Wild Swans" at first, and to many, I doubt it would matter.  The plot moves and with so many gripping moments of inventive interactions, you'll forget it's the end before you know it.  Let "Spinning Starlight" spin your minds with imagination and fascination. Find out more below and remember to enter into the giveaway for your chance to get a signed copy of both "Spinning Starlight" and "Stitching Snow".

NOTE: I received a complimentary e-copy from the publisher, Disney Hyperion through Net-Galley, as part of the Rockstar Book Tours for an honest review.  For affiliate link info, please see disclosure page.

Sixteen-year-old heiress and paparazzi darling Liddi Jantzen hates the spotlight. But as the only daughter in the most powerful tech family in the galaxy, it's hard to escape it. So when a group of men show up at her house uninvited, she assumes it's just the usual media-grubs. That is, until shots are fired.

Liddi escapes, only to be pulled into an interplanetary conspiracy more complex than she ever could have imagined. Her older brothers have been caught as well, trapped in the conduits between the planets. And when their captor implants a device in Liddi's vocal cords to monitor her speech, their lives are in her hands: One word and her brothers are dead.

Desperate to save her family from a desolate future, Liddi travels to another world, where she meets the one person who might have the skills to help her bring her eight brothers home-a handsome dignitary named Tiav. But without her voice, Liddi must use every bit of her strength and wit to convince Tiav that her mission is true. With the tenuous balance of the planets deeply intertwined with her brothers' survival, just how much is Liddi willing to sacrifice to bring them back?

Haunting and mesmerizing, this retelling of Hans Christian Andersen'sThe Wild Swans strings the heart of the classic with a stunning, imaginative world as a star-crossed family fights for survival in this companion to Stitching Snow

About R.C.:
R.C. Lewis teaches math to teenagers—sometimes in sign language, sometimes not—so whether she’s a science geek or a bookworm depends on when you look. That may explain why her characters don’t like to be pigeonholed. Coincidentally, R.C. enjoys reading about quantum physics and the identity issues of photons.
