ABOUT THE BOOK
No one needs to push Nikki Boyd to excel on the Tennessee Missing Persons Task Force. The case of her own missing sister, still unsolved after ten years, is the driving force in her work. When a Polaroid photo of a missing girl shows up at a crime scene, Nikki quickly recognizes similarities to the past. The closer she gets to the abductor, the more she feels this case has become personal, and she is not the hunter . . . but the hunted.
With this explosive first book in The Nikki Boyd Files, award-winning author Lisa Harris takes you on a fast-paced pursuit of justice that will have you holding your breath until the heart-stopping finish.

MY THOUGHTS
Now, don't laugh at me, but I keep thinking of "Nikki Heat" from Castle. I know silly, but the name Nikki just makes me think of Castle. OK. Back to Vendetta by Lisa Harris. If you're a fan of detective stories and crime novels, this is the book for you. It is suspenseful and action packed, starting from the very beginning when we see our protagonist, Nikki having a little trouble while rappelling alongside a steep cliff.
With a back story of a missing sister, and now as part of the task force focused on finding missing people, Nikki has all the markings of a great character to be developed. She is a strong female protagonist we can root for, and hoping that there will be closure regarding her sister, and with the case on hand, emotionally and romantically. As part of a series, I guess that might be asking for too much. Yes, we do find closure with the case on hand and there is development in terms of emotional baggage, but I wish for more. The thing is, this book has it all, so what I'm wishing more might just be me wishing to read the next or the whole series right away. I want to see Nikki grow more as an individual, but by the end, the minor growth wasn't satisfying enough. However, I do see it happening and I think for the short period of time this book is set at, it is realistic. There's much more to say in regards to this fully packed novel of suspense thriller including romance and family, but I think the following quotes will sum up what I love about Vendetta.
"Sometimes all you can do is hold on for dear life and pray that God will help you find a way through the storm. Sometimes he shows you a way to escape, and sometimes he walks through the fire with you. But I'm starting to realize that as much as I've battled with God, nothing that happens here on this earth changes who God is." (276)
"Give it time. There is no formula for grief. No time-frame that says where you need to be by a certain date. This is your journey." (279)This is what I want out of a book - entertainment and knowledge. To find a book entertaining is fairly easy, but to learn something or to feel something that will enlighten you, that is the ticket to a good book that's worthy to be read and shared. This is a book to help with the unexpected and the grief that you carry with you. Simply said, it's a book that understands.
Last, a small warning: don't read the brief excerpt for book 2 at the end of Vendetta. It will just get you too riled up in anticipation for the next book, out the Summer 2016. It was GOOD.
NOTE: I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher, Revell for an honest review.
