ABOUT THE BOOK

For sixty years, a wedding chapel sat silent, waiting for love. But times have changed and the hour has come when it just might be too late.

Retired hall-of-fame football coach Jimmy "Coach" Westbrook never imagined anything would come of his labor of love---the wedding chapel he built for Collette Greer, the woman he fell for back in '49. But now an offer has come to turn the chapel into what it was meant to be---a place for love---and Jimmy sees no reason to hang onto his dream any longer.

Photographer Taylor Branson is trying to make a life for herself in New York. Leaving her hometown of Heart's Bend, Tennessee, she put a lot of things behind her, including her family's abysmal marriage rate. But love surprises her when she falls head-over-heels for Jack Forester, a top ad man. Their whirlwind romance results in an elopement, and a mountain of doubt. Jack, while genuine in his love for Taylor, can never seem to overcome his own demons to find the words of his heart.

When Taylor takes an assignment in Heart's Bend, the job does more than send her back to her hometown, but into a world of family secrets buried beneath the sands of time.

When Taylor's journey intersects with Coach's, they rediscover the heartbeat of their dreams and that the love they long to hold is right in front of them. And worth every waiting moment.

MY THOUGHTS

Is 60 years too long for love to find its way? I don't know, but after this book, I really think true love is timeless, and 60 years may really not be that long.  This is a love story, or rather several love stories. Misunderstood love, mis-communicated love, selfish love, unwanted love, forgiving love and destined love.  Love in not only the romantic sense, but also love between parent and child and between siblings. What an emotional journey for the characters and the readers!   Words like, "...he had no idea how to be a husband, how to be raw and real, how to tell her that if she disappeared from his life he just might not be able to breath" (67) will appeal to your emotions for you to keep reading.  I am enthralled by a story of destined love, going through life with mistakes, achievements, relationships, and finding the one that really is all. Yes, I'm a romantic at heart, but you can't doubt that love that withstand time does not entice you.

Rachel Hauck gave us something to enjoy and hope and imagine. The Wedding Chapel is one story that one needs to take their time reading, and not breeze through or they might miss the delicate soul of this book, almost mysteriously prompted by the little quaint wedding chapel.   Yes, there are themes of forgiveness, self-absorption, self-denial and doubt interwoven throughout, but to me, the highlight is what Rachel speaks to us about love.

QUOTABLE QUOTES
"I like when you're happy. You get this crystal glow in your eyes"..."What do you see?"..."Someone willing to take a chance"..."Yeah? On what?"..."Me." (69)
"Love well.  That doesn't mean it will be perfect, but we'll be like the Lord.  Love anyway." (361)
Set in dual-time, The Wedding Chapel will let you travel with it to see love and it's endurance through tragedy, change, prosperity and doubt. And in the end, what will the thump in your heart tell you? Please, take your time in experiencing decades that wasn't destroyed, but was hoped and learn to love well as we can.
