Based on a true story that gripped the nation back in 2005, an escaped convict, Brian Nichols held single meth addict mother, Ashley Smith hostage for 7 hours. What's so amazing about this story was how Brian Nichols ultimately let Ashley go. Divine intervention is all there is. Through reading together a chapter in Rick Warren's The Purpose Driven Life, both Brian and Ashley awakens to God's faith in them, and ultimately what freedom is.

With this story (the movie and the true story), what I find interesting is how all elements lined up, divinely. However, the role of the reading of the The Purpose Driven Life is short, almost 3/4 of the way into the movie, which I had hoped for a bigger presence. The faith element was shown through subtly, and that's the only gripe I have with the movie. I wished for a stronger presence, with no doubt, but then it would be too unbelievable? Either way, Captive is moving, and demonstrated faith during times of danger and fear. Where there seems to be no hope, God knocks on until you see the light.

I find light in the midst of a gloomy day by listening to Christian music.
ReplyDeleteI won't say that I always do find light in a gloomy day but usually it can be as simple as picking up a good book to read. I don't have many gloomy days - maybe because I read a lot. The days most likely to be gloomy are the ones when I have to go to the store and do other tasks that keep me from having time to read.
ReplyDeleteI just left a comment and forgot to include my name and email. Now that is enough to make me gloomy. :) My response basically involved reading to get read of the gloomies. my name is Edward Arrington and email is grandaddya[at]Comcast[dot]net.
ReplyDeleteI find light - at ANY time, but especially when going through trials - by staying closer to God via reading Christian books, listening to Christian music, conversing with my sisters-in-Christ online, prayer and bible study.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway opportunity, Annie!!

ReplyDeleteI find light in the midst of a gloomy day by listening to Praise & Worship music. I struggle with depression, so I tend to have a few gloomy days every now & then. However, as I focus on God via music, my heart's focus is corrected from its inward view to the outer view on God that worship is. It's very hard to stay gloomy after a "session" with my Counselor! :)

Thank-you!
I find light by praying and listening to uplifting Christian music. For me, staying upbeat about life is a daily struggle, but knowing that I have others praying for me helps keep me going. *On an aside note, I hadn't heard about this movie until the real life Ashley's cousin posted something about the movie premiere and shared her story. I haven't been the same since.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the lovely giveaway, Annie. - Blessings, Julianna Rowe emeraldelena(at)hotmail(dot)com
Hello, It can be difficult to find light on a gloomy day. When I am feeling down I think about all the other people who most likely can be feeling the same as I. So I pray for God, who knows who they are, to meet their needs. I meditate on the Word of God, by quoting scripture to myself.. One of my favourites is, I can do all things, through Christ who strengthens me." Blessings Crystal Mary Lindsey. faithicu@gmail.com

ReplyDeleteOur hope & joy needs to come from inside, despite the weather. Getting my focus off of myself really helps, and Christian music can really help with that. kathae (at) jacobfam dot net
ReplyDeleteGreat review, and sounds like an interesting DVD. When going thru a very depressing time the first of last year (5 deaths in 5 months), I clung to Psalm 91. He was my shelter (and has always been thru the years of ministry) to strengthen and guide me thru that time. Thanks for the opportunity.
