ABOUT THE BOOK
The International
Bestseller.
Once you let a book into
your life, the most unexpected things can happen...
Broken Wheel, Iowa, has never seen anyone like Sara, who traveled all the way from Sweden just to meet her pen pal, Amy. When she arrives, however, she finds that Amy's funeral has just ended. Luckily, the townspeople are happy to look after their bewildered tourist—even if they don't understand her peculiar need for books. Marooned in a farm town that's almost beyond repair, Sara starts a bookstore in honor of her friend's memory. All she wants is to share the books she loves with the citizens of Broken Wheel and to convince them that reading is one of the great joys of life. But she makes some unconventional choices that could force a lot of secrets into the open and change things for everyone in town. Reminiscent of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, this is a warm, witty book about friendship, stories, and love.

MY THOUGHTS
The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend had me with it's beautiful cover, and the title. Then the synopsis sounds interesting enough for a bibliophile/book lover like myself. I must admit, this charming story with quirky characters had me reading until the end. Sweet and colorful in many ways, this is a story about friendship and love, and what books have to do with it.
With a sheltered life, Sara, the Swedish tourist and pen pal of Amy, had hopes to enjoy a vacation with Amy, reading, discussing books and to see the history and stories hidden in the small town of Broken Wheel. What she didn't expect was to be accepted and loved by the towns people. The one thing though, is that no one seems to read or seems to accept the powers of a good book. In honor of Amy, Sara opens a bookstore to share the many books Amy owns with the towns people and that's when the magic of books and reading happens. With vivid imagination, the author, Katarina brings us an idealistic world of a bibliophile and how that invades our realistic world with love and understanding.
NOTE for my readers who are interested in clean reads only, this book, I'd say are mostly clean, with one or two words that are less than desirable and an "intimate" scene that was not described but alluded to.
You'll find laughter and warmth as you embark on this journey of books (might even add a few to your to-read list) with the people of Broken Wheel.
NOTE: I received a complimentary digital ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. For my review policy, please see my Disclosure page.

“Bookstores are the heart and soul of their community and have enormous impact on readers’ lives,” said Dominique Raccah, founder and CEO of Sourcebooks. “The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend inspired us to create a campaign that will not only give back to a few deserving bookstores, but hopefully highlight all the many wonderful bookstores that service communities across the country.”
From Sourcebooks:

Sourcebooks will award the winning bookstore with a $3,000 prize; two additional bookstores will each receive a $637 prize (the population of Bivald’s fictional Broken Wheel, Iowa). In addition to bookstores receiving prizes, weekly giveaways for those who nominate will be held throughout the campaign. Voting began January 4, and runs until February 19, when the winning bookstores will be announced.
