ABOUT THE BOOK

Casey knows the truth. But it won't set her free.

Casey Cox's DNA is all over the crime scene. There's no use talking to police; they have failed her abysmally before. She has to flee before she's arrested . . . or worse. The truth doesn't matter anymore.

But what is the truth? That's the question haunting Dylan Roberts, the war-weary veteran hired to find Casey. PTSD has marked him damaged goods, but bringing Casey back can redeem him. Though the crime scene seems to tell the whole story, details of the murder aren't adding up. Casey Cox doesn't fit the profile of a killer. But are Dylan's skewed perceptions keeping him from being objective? If she isn't guilty, why did she run?

Unraveling her past and the evidence that condemns her will take more time than he has, but as Dylan's damaged soul intersects with hers, he is faced with two choices. The girl who occupies his every thought is a psychopathic killer . . . or a selfless hero. And the truth could be the most deadly weapon yet.

MY THOUGHTS

I can't believe it! An electrifying suspense thriller that will have you turning the pages before you read the last word!  It took me just one evening, and I just had to finish it.  I feel extremely sheltered, knowing that If I Run is the very first novel I've read of Terri Blackstock. I know, shocking! For this, I must give a shout-out to the cover design team of If I Run. I love it, and it really was the cover that grabbed my attention first.

With If I Run, we are inside the main characters' head, from Casey to Dylan, we see their thoughts and feel their anxiety and at times emotional pain.  What would you do if you found your best friend in a pool of blood? And the fact that you are the main suspect in his murder? Will you run or trust that those who have a history of lies be able to set you free?  In Dylan's case, one can't imagine what a combat soldier and a criminal investigator goes through in times of warfare and how post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can affect someone.   The first person scenario hits the mark in getting this reader interested and invested.  Casey is a wonderful heroine and Dylan is someone you can trust. Both strong characters that carried this story till the end.

In terms of the plot, we have one main mystery, the death of Brett, whom Casey's the number one suspect, and then we have two side stories, that pretty much have life on its own, especially if the former one is connected to Brett's murder. As to the secondary mystery, I'm happy there's a conclusion to it. This secondary mystery gives us an unwavering knowledge of who Casey is. She is someone that will sacrifice herself for the well-being of others, even if she hardly knew the person.  That makes her story even more powerful. I genuinely like her. I hope there's more to this series, and that we won't have to wait long. Even though we have answers, there are some things that I hope for in a novel that I'd love to have closure on. So hopefully in the next book in the series, we have more closure.  Pick this one up. You won't regret it!

  1. for your first Terri Blackstock novel, you picked a good one :D I can also highly recommend the Suncoast Chronicles (Evidence of Mercy was my favorite TB book until If I Run lol) and then the Newpointe 911 series. Those are her older series but in my opinion the best ones. Again.. until If I Run :)
