Love Letters with Laura Frantz, author of A Moonbow Night

Just Commonly welcome authors to drop by and share with us their take on a book that embodies a predetermined Word of the Month!  For the full year of 2017, every Monday at 7:00 AM EST, a new post by a new author will be live!

Today with have Laura Frantz to start the week for us! What book will she share with us and what does "love letters" have to do with it?

"I tend to think of February as 'love month,' no doubt because it holds Valentine's Day. One year I was traveling and alone on Valentine's Day, missing my husband and wishing for a little romance. I wandered into an antique store in this tiny Kentucky town and there was this little gem of a book waiting for me, complete with a cookie cutter heart tied to it. The title is Love Letters, An Anthology of Passion. I felt it was God's gift to me, that He was right there with me even if I felt alone on Valentine's Day. Over the next week I savored this beautifully illustrated collection of historical love letters written by authors over several centuries. It renewed my faith in the One who walks with us each moment even when we feel alone, the Author of all great love stories, primarily God's with us. "

Award-winning author Laura Frantz is passionate about all things historical, particularly the 18th-century, and writes her manuscripts in longhand first. Her stories often incorporate Scottish themes that reflect her family heritage. She is a direct descendant of George Hume, Wedderburn Castle, Berwickshire, Scotland, who was exiled to the American colonies for his role in the Jacobite Rebellion of 1715, settled in Virginia, and is credited with teaching George Washington surveying in the years 1748-1750. Frantz lives and writes in a log cabin in the heart of Kentucky.

Thank you, Laura! I think I might want one myself! Sounds like such a gem.

Now, a little about Laura's latest release, A Moonbow Night! I heard such great things about it! I'm definitely looking forward to reading this one!

ABOUT A Moonbow Night by Laura

After fleeing Virginia, Temperance Tucker and her family established an inn along the Shawnee River. It's a welcome way station for settlers and frontiersmen traveling through the wild Cumberland region of Kentucke--men like Sion Morgan, a Virginia surveyor who arrives at the inn with his crew looking for an experienced guide. When his guide appears, Sion balks. He certainly didn't expect a woman. But it is not long before he must admit that Tempe's skill in the wilderness rivals his own. Still, the tenuous tie they are forming is put to the test as they encounter danger after danger and must rely on each other.
With her signature sweeping style and ability to bring the distant past to vivid life, Laura Frantz beckons readers to join her in a land of Indian ambushes, conflicting loyalties, and a tentative love that meanders like a cool mountain stream.

  1. Such a wonderful story of Valentine's Day & God's love. I'm enjoying the vivid descriptions in Moonbow Night. I'm terrible at descriptions in my own writing, so I'm learning how lovely they can be.

    1. Janet, Blessed by your taking the time to be here & read MOONBOW, too:) Not sure about those grandiose caps for MOONBOW here but they automatically pop up! Descriptive writing can be tricky to nail down & I love that you're leaning toward that. I probably border on being purple prosy at times but the natural world is so important to me that I don't mind treating it as a secondary character. Watch your own writing spring to life by including even the littlest details:) I've learned a lot by reading too. Again, thx for reading Tempe's story!

    2. The setting was definitely a secondary character in your story! I kind of write with ADD sometimes, I think, ha!
