Grace Unexpected with Kara Isaac, author of Can*t Help Falling

Just Commonly welcome authors to drop by and share with us their take on a book that embodies a predetermined Word of the Month!  For the full year of 2017, every Monday at 7:00 AM EST, a new post by a new author will be live!

Last week, we had Janet Ferguson on grace and recommending Can't Help Falling. This week, I'm happy to present to you, the author of Can't Help Falling, Kara Isaac to share about grace in a story.

"A book about the horrors of human trafficking and sex slavery probably isn't what most people think of when they think of books about grace and I'm the first to admit that I ugly cried my way through most of this beautiful but heart-wrenching story. However, Julie Cantrell was a master of weaving grace through its pages. Grace shown through Sarah, the young victim of unspeakable crimes who never let the circumstances she was trapped in embitter or destroy her. Grace shown by other characters to Amanda, the mother supervising the field trip when Sarah disappeared, and the grace of God weaved through the journeys of all of the characters.  "

Kara Isaac lives in Wellington, New Zealand. Her sophomore romantic comedy, Can't Help Falling, is a funny, heartfelt romance about how an antique shop, a wardrobe, and a mysterious tea cup bring two C.S. Lewis fans together in a snowy and picturesque Oxford, England. and was an RT Review Top Pick. When she's not chasing three adorable but spirited little people, she spends her time writing horribly bad first drafts and wishing you could get Double Stuf Oreos in New Zealand. She loves to connect on her website, on Facebook at Kara Isaac - Author and Twitter @KaraIsaac

In the pre-Katrina glow of New Orleans, Amanda Salassi is anxious about chaperoning her daughter’s sixth grade field trip to the Big Easy during Halloween. And then her worst fears come true. Her daughter’s best friend, Sarah, disappears amid the magic and revelry—gone, without a trace.

Unable to cope with her guilt, Amanda’s daughter sinks in depression. And Amanda’s husband turns destructive as he watches his family succumb to grief. Before long, Amanda’s whole world has collapsed.

Amanda knows she has to save herself before it’s too late. As she continues to search for Sarah, she embarks on a personal journey, seeking hope and purpose in the wake of so much tragedy and loss.

Set amidst the murky parishes of rural Louisiana and told through the eyes of two women who confront the darkest corners of humanity with quiet and unbreakable faith, The Feathered Bone is Julie Cantrell’s master portrait of love in a fallen world.

Thank you, Kara!! I loved Can't Help Falling. The Feathered Bone is also on my TBR list. I've heard some great things about it, especially about the heaviness one feels from the characters. I love that you gave me a little more glimpse into it. Thanks again for stopping in!

ABOUT CAN'T HELP FALLING by Kara

Emelia Mason has spent her career finding the dirt on the rich and famous. But deep down past this fearless tabloid-reporter façade, there’s a nerdy Narnia-obsessed girl who still can’t resist climbing into wardrobes to check for the magical land on the other side. When a story she writes produces tragic results, she flees to Oxford, England—home to C.S. Lewis—to try and make amends for the damage she has caused.

Peter Carlisle was on his way to become one of Great Britain’s best rowers—until he injured his shoulder and lost his chance at glory. He’s determined to fight his way back to the top even if it means risking permanent disability to do so. It’s the only way he can find his way past failing the one person who never stopped believing in his Olympic dream.

When Peter and Emelia cross paths on her first night in Oxford, the attraction is instant and they find common ground in their shared love of Narnia. But can the lessons from a fantasyland be enough to hold them together when secrets of the real world threaten to tear them apart? Cobblestone streets, an aristocratic estate, and an antique shop with curious a wardrobe bring the world of Narnia to life in Kara Isaac’s inspiring and romantic story about second chances.
