Owlcrate February 2017 Run Away with the Circus Unboxing & Review

Happy Saturday!

Owlcrate's February 2017, "Run Away with the Circus" box has everything to do with circus and books! "How?" you might ask. I will definitely tell you indeed.

Isn't that just the cutest card? The clown's a little freaky, but that's only because I'm not a big fan of them.  Now, here's a little glimpse of the contents...

A little about Owlcrate:

Owlcrate is a monthly subscription box service. Every month, a theme is chosenand a carefully selected brand new Young Adult novel (new or soon to be released), along with 3-5 bookish items to keep. Many times, they will work with designers to custom design something exclusively for Owlcrate to tie into the month's theme. You can order personal or gift subscriptions starting with 1, 3 or 6 months at $29.99 + shipping for one month. More plan options are available online.

Pretty awesome, already, don't you think?  In detail, here we go:

This beautifully designed tote bag is inspired by The Night Circus and is designed exclusively by Evie Seo of Evie Bookish. It comes in either this red or a black. I'm totally digging this bag and the design. Makes me want to read The Night Circus!  (estimated Value: $18)

Of course, we'll get an Owlcrate exclusive button pin. Kind of cute, don't you think?  And this mini doughnut lip balm from Geek Fire Labs smells pretty yummy! It's inspired by classic traveling carnivals. It reminds me of the carnivals in Coney Island when I was younger. Nostalgic for sure! (Button estimated value: $1) & (Lip Balm Value: $4)

Next we have this notepad made from recycled casino playing cards from Attic Journals! Which cards did you get?  Always can use a notepad and the fact they upcycled this, pretty cool. (Value: $4)

This is definitely another highlight! I LOVE Girl of All Work stuff.  And I use page flags constantly, and mine are not as pretty as these! (Value: $5.50)

There are just way too many items in this box I love, including this 2 oz Le Cirque des Rêves candle from Frostbeard Studio made exclusively for this box. (You can now buy the candle in their standard sizes at their shop). It smells just lovely - I think it smells like fireplace popcorn! (Value: $4)

And here, we come to the book. This is honestly one of the most highly anticipated Young Adult fiction for the month of February. It made the #1 slot of NYT bestselling book in the Young Adult category. And I can't wait to read it! It comes with an author note, a lovely card and a signed bookplate. Plus a sample to the audiobook! (Value: $11.29 on Amazon for book only) Here's the synopsis if you haven't heard about it:

About Caraval by Stephanie Garber:
Whatever you've heard about Caraval, it doesn't compare to the reality. It's more than just a game or a performance. It's the closest you'll ever find to magic in this world . . .

Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the far-away, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over.

But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. But she nevertheless becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic with the other players in the game. And whether Caraval is real or not, she must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over, a dangerous domino effect of consequences is set off, and her sister disappears forever.

Welcome, welcome to Caraval . . . beware of getting swept too far away.

As much as we anticipate every box in the mail, I also look forward to the "sneak peek" card that tells us the theme for the next month as well as a little spoiler for what to expect of one of the items!

And last, but not least is next month's theme card:

In all, I LOVE this box. Everything I can imagine myself using or just simply in love with it. What a FUN box. I'd say it's pretty hard to top. Alice in Wonderland's box back in November was pretty outstanding too. So plenty of great ideas Owlcrate has for sure. Total value of this box is about $47.79 and that doesn't include all the thought and extra cards that went into this box. Plus there's shipping too! Totally worth a subscription. Here's one more look at everything!
