Book Review + Giveaway: But Then I Came Back by Estelle Laure, author of This Raging Light

Title: But Then I Came Back
Author: Estelle Laure
Publisher:  Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) for Young Readers
Release Date:  April 4, 2017
Genre: Young Adult Contemporary

Eden Jones, a 17-year-old girl, feels lost after surviving a near fatal accident. Unable to connect with her family and friends, Eden forms an unlikely relationship with Joe, a boy who comes to the hospital to visit Jasmine, a friend who may soon be gone forever. Eden is the only person who can get through to Jasmine, but is she brave enough to face a world that’s bigger and more magical than she ever would have allowed?

But Then I Came Back by Estelle Laure channels the same poetic language as her debut novel, This Raging Light. Themes of perseverance and lost connects them, in addition to the familiar characters you'll meet. As a companion piece, it stops there, because in truth, But Then I Came Back is a new story, a new journey  - Eden's journey.

Mixed in with magical realism, But Then I Came Back thither between life, death and mostly the in between. And ultimately discovering one's self and making the choice to choose life, is the essence of this novel. The pace is just right, slower at first to build the momentum, as well as a period of recovery and search.  With light humor between the characters, including Lucille and Digby, characters from This Raging Light, it balances out the overall melancholic feel.  A story that ignites thought and provide an emotional reverence.
