Faith through Christian Fiction with Alexa Verde, author of the Rios Azules series

Just Commonly welcome authors to drop by and share with us their take on a book that embodies a predetermined Word of the Month!  For the full year of 2017, every Monday at 7:00 AM EST, a new post by a new author will be live!

"I can’t imagine my life without faith. I can’t imagine standing at the edge of the abyss without something strong to hold on to, my faith."
- Alexa Verde

"I went through scary times recently, and sometimes despair entered my heart. But then I prayed, and it gave me hope. I can’t imagine my life without faith. I can’t imagine standing at the edge of the abyss without something strong to hold on to, my faith. I hope to grow in faith together with my characters. For example, the hero of my new book, Season of Hope, starts out as jaded, broken, and a bit self-centered. His spiritual journey is slow, but by the end of the book he’s changing into someone whose faith is stronger and who’s capable of a selfless act. I’m also learning to thank God for all the blessings, instead of only turning to the Lord when times are difficult.

I believe that reading books by great Christian authors helps me grow in faith, as well. I want what I read not only to entertain me but to make me a better Christian. One of such authors is Autumn Macarthur. Her books embody faith to me. They are like a guiding light that shows the way and helps me change. One of my favorite books by Ms. Macarthur is A Lesson in Love.

Love can make life complicated...

Teacher Fraser Maclean has worked with Sarah Browne for eight months, but she runs when he suggests a date. He has to take no for an answer. Sarah’s worked hard to control her feelings for Fraser. They’re safer staying friends. That’s enough. It has to be.

When they build a garden for their church together, he discovers the real reason she won’t date. And Sarah still won’t trust him with her biggest secret of all.

Can they learn God’s lessons in love, or will fear and doubt keep them apart?"

After traveling the world and living in both hemispheres, she calls a small town in south Texas home. The latter is an inspiration for the fictional setting of her series Rios Azules Christmas and Secrets of Rios Azules

ABOUT A LESSON IN LOVE by Autumn MacArthur

Love can make life complicated...

Sports teacher Fraser Maclean has worked with Sarah Browne for eight months at their Edinburgh high school. She's not involved with anyone else, and she seems to enjoy his company, so why won’t the pretty trainee teacher see him outside school? Despite their attraction, he has to take no for an answer. Besides, he wants a simple, uncomplicated life, and he suspects Sarah is far from uncomplicated.

Sarah’s worked hard to control her feelings for Fraser and keep him at arm’s length. He’s kind, athletic, funny, and he appeals to her like no other man, but she can’t trust he’ll love her enough to share her burdens and stick around when things get tough. They’re safer staying friends. That’s enough. It has to be.

When they build a sensory garden at their church together, he discovers the real reason she won’t date. Caring for her ill mother dominates Sarah’s days and nights. Getting involved with her means things will get a whole lot of complicated. No more simple life. And Sarah still won’t trust him with her biggest secret of all.

Can the two teachers learn God’s lessons in love, or will fear and doubt keep them apart?
