Book Review: Chasing Secrets, Book 4 of Elite Guardians by Lynette Eason

Title:  Chasing Secrets
Series: Elite Guardians, Book 4
Author: Lynette Eason
Publisher:  Revell
Release Date:  August 1, 2017
Genre: Inspirational Contemporary Fiction / Suspense

Elite Guardians bodyguard Haley Callaghan may be in South Carolina, but when a photo leads investigators in West Ireland to open a twenty-five-year-old cold case, her life is suddenly in danger. Haley knows how to take care of herself; after all, she's made a career out of taking care of others. But after an uncomfortably close call, Detective Steven Rothwell takes it upon himself to stay with her--and the young client she has taken under her wing. A protector at heart, he's not about to let Haley fight this battle alone.

In a sweeping plot that takes them into long-buried memories--and the depths of the heart--Haley and Steven will have to solve the mystery of Haley's past while dodging bullets, bombs, and bad guys who just won't quit.

Chasing secrets can be exhausting, but Chasing Secrets by Lynette Eason, Book 4 of the Elite Guardians series is thrilling and exasperatingly good. So good, I wish there was more.

Ever since I read the first book, Always Watching, I've been intrigued with Haley Callaghan. She's tough, smart and loyal. Her compassion for the underprivileged and homeless drives her. In this book, we get to understand her on a broader level. Her past, her hurts, and her loves. She is tenacious, strong and o so funny with her Irish brogue. I really loved reading about her. The first reaction doesn’t compare to getting to know her in her very own story! And detective Steven Rothwell backs her up.

I also enjoyed the girl comraderie we see with the rest of the group at Elite Guardians.  I love seeing repeat characters back. The team spirit  has such a strong presence with a great message for fellowship. Speaking of message, the message of forgiveness, not only of others but of self really hits home. Satisfying in its plot and closure for the group, but giving hope for the future.

In all, Chasing Secrets hits all the right notes with suspense, romance, characters and a strong message. I will miss the Elite Guardians but will look forward to the author's new series, Blue Justice, coming 2018.
