From Newbery Medal-winning author Matt de la Peña and bestselling illustrator Loren Long comes a story about the strongest bond there is and the diverse and powerful ways it connects us all.

"In the beginning there is light
and two wide-eyed figures standing near the foot of your bed
and the sound of their voices is love.
A cab driver plays love softly on his radio
while you bounce in back with the bumps of the city
and everything smells new, and it smells like life."
In this heartfelt celebration of love, Newbery Medal-winning author Matt de la Peña and bestselling illustrator Loren Long depict the many ways we experience this universal bond, which carries us from the day we are born throughout the years of our childhood and beyond. With a lyrical text that's soothing and inspiring, this tender tale is a needed comfort and a new classic that will resonate with readers of every age.

"Love is actively seeking the best for the other person, despite circumstances or affection returned, with a willingness that doesn't always make sense to the world."

" Love is unconditional and we give it expecting nothing in return. God is Love...he gives it to us, to share with others. Love is 100 percent given with ZERO expected in return. Love isn’t butterflies, emotions, etc...it involves action. We love because God first loved us!"

"Love is Jesus."

"Love is when you put others before yourself. You will do anything for them without thought. You stick by them no matter the circumstance. And you forgive...always."

"Love is a decision, given unconditionally and sacrificially.

"Love is a choice. It is choosing to make someone, or something at times, more important than yourself. It is opening up your soul and making them a vital piece of your well-being. Like stubbing your toe, these pieces may hurt sometimes, but cutting them out isn't any more of an option than cutting off your toe. When you knit the people you love into your life, it doesn't take away who you are but it changes the overall look of the quilt of your life. Factor in the love of Jesus and the quilt changes entirely."

" Love is taking time out to do things with and for the one you love. It is spending time getting to know what makes them tick, surprising them in different ways by showing how much you care whether its a good or bad day. Love is taking time to listen to concerns, to spending time figuring out what the other person needs most and just being there for them."

"Love is a room full of books that you haven't read yet. "

"Taken from 'Yours, Mine, and Ours' the original version with Lucielle Ball and Henry Fonda. 'It's giving life that counts. Until you're ready for it, all the rest is just a big fraud. All the crazy haircuts in the world won't keep it turning. Life isn't a love in, it's the dishes and the orthodontist and the shoe repairman and... ground round instead of roast beef. And I'll tell you something else: it isn't going to a bed with a man that proves you're in love with him; it's getting up in the morning and facing the drab, miserable, wonderful everyday world with him that counts.'"

"What is love to you?"
