Can one woman's prayers change the world?

Hannah and her husband, Elkanah, share a deep and abiding love for each other, for their God, and for His tabernacle at Shiloh. Greatly disturbed by the corruption of the priests, they long for restoration and pray for a deliverer. But nothing changes as the years pass. Years that also reveal Hannah to be barren.

Pressured by his family to take another wife, Elkanah marries Peninnah, who quickly begins to bear children. Disgraced and taunted by her husband's new wife, Hannah turns again to prayers that seem doomed to go unanswered. Do her devotion and kindness in the face of Peninnah's cruelty count for nothing? Will God remain silent and indifferent to her pleas?

Travel back to the dusty streets of Shiloh with an expert guide as Jill Eileen Smith brings to life a beloved story of hope, patience, and deliverance that shows that even the most broken of relationships can be restored.

Jill Eileen Smith's latest release in the Daughters of the Promised Land series focused on Hannah. A Passionate Hope is a story of trust and hope in God, even when it's easier to doubt. And when faith carries through, so does the abundance of grace.

In all honesty, I've never thought such a beautiful story can come out of Hannah's story. True, there is much we can learn and leave with when we delve into Hannah and her faith, but a story of love? Of forgiveness? Simply fortifying.

"She assumed . . . she would have no choice. But here was a man willing to give her time and choice." (17)

I enjoyed how the author inspires us to refer back to the original text of the Bible in her stories. Biblical fiction at its best, but also give us an imaginative understanding of culture and the characters' emotional state. As readers journey with Hannah and Elkanah on these decades of love, disappointments, faith and struggles with family, each other and even God., the underlying message shined through.  How the power of prayer and obedience to God illuminated, while additional themes of forgiveness and faith rounded out what we see in the Biblical text of the story. And then there's the essence of the "joy of worshiping for God is good" is so invigorating at the same time. There's so much one can grasp from A Passionate Hope. It sure makes for one worthy read.
