Artist Livy Johnson needs a fresh start. That’s what a broken heart and forgotten dreams can do to a person. On little more than a whim, she reclaims her grandmother’s old home in quaint Laurel Cove, North Carolina and vows to restore its original charm. When she literally collides with childhood friend, Jack Bowdon, Livy wonders if she’s back for an entirely different reason.

Jack can’t believe his childhood crush is back. As the owner of Bowdon’s Supplies, and once again the town’s most eligible bachelor, he offers to help Livy with repairs. Together they embark on the project – and an undeniable whirlwind romance.

But it’s not all smooth sailing. Can they survive the destructive pain of their pasts and discover God’s grace waiting to renovate their hearts?

MY THOUGHTS

Someplace Familiar by Teresa Tysinger will bring you to someplace familiar. It's the place that in your heart, it reminds you of what it was, or what it could've been, but also a place that held a special meaning. Someplace Familiar is also familiar in many ways because Livy is so relate-able, you can't help but find similarities.

"No coincidences, only affirmations - little nudges from a heavenly Father who wants you to know you are loved and worthy of the grace He showers upon all of His people."  (199)

Laurel Cove is quaint and as with all small towns, gossips tends to spread in lightning speed, but it also comes with the genuine care of people - the kind of people where"friendships that last a lifetime" kind. Smart, funny, insightful and downright charming, this romantic story makes for an easy and fun read. Though I did find the part of bringing in Sam to Laurel Cove odious and not overtly important. Of course, it did contribute to Jack's development, so I get it. Just felt that part dragged a bit. It could totally be me being overly bias. Did not like Sam at all. And on that note, I thought Claire's plot line was interesting and did pave way for a possible continuation. I just love stories of redemption.

"It's funny how moments that are catalyst to positive change can be so painful."  (81)

Back to Someplace Familiar. If you love romantic comedies plus a little of grace and substance, I'd say pick this one up, and enjoy the friendships you'll build with these characters. And if you ever had doubts in yourself or in God, be encouraged by Someplace Familiar, and let hope take resident.

"The way I see it, we shouldn't ask God why not?. . Instead, let's ask what now?"  (103)

"Guess it's just nice to have a little hope. . . we can hope for better. Better than we had, better than we think we deserve. If we find that, it's as pretty close to perfect as we can get this side of heaven."  (73/303)
