"If this hound could like us, and trust us, well . . . maybe we could trust ourselves."

Everyone loves an underdog, and nothing gives us warmer feelings than seeing someone get a second chance in life. A problem pup who flourishes under the right kind of training. The struggling veteran who finds unconditional love wiggling around at the end of a leash. The lonely child who finds comfort in the steady breathing of the warm, furry friend at her side.

Each of us needs to be rescued from something--and each of us has the capacity to rescue someone, or something, else. This feel-good collection of more than thirty contemporary, true stories spotlights the beauty of being rescued--dogs rescued by people, people rescued by dogs, and even dogs who rescue other animals. It's the perfect companion--well, besides the four-legged, tail-wagging kind--for your morning cup of coffee or an evening curled up on the couch.

MY THOUGHTS

I love the subtitle of Second-Chance Dogs: True Stories of the Dogs We Rescue and the Dogs Who Rescue Us, edited by Callie Smith Grant. Why? I love it because it holds more truth than we can imagine, or even contemplate by those who've never had a dog. Just merely two years ago, I would be in that camp, that is, until my Gabby and Reagan came into my life. My two puppies have given me much joy, and in many sense, rescued me with their unconditional love. That is what these stories in Second-Chance Dogs are about. It's about second chances for us, as well as for many of these dogs, and I love how each story is different with the same underlying theme.

In all, Second-Chance Dogs will tug your emotions, bring laughter to you and warm your heart to know that there are others who feel the same about their pups. There's an overall message that just about hit home when it comes to the idea of love.
